Numbers have dropped below that critical mass of players that keep the servers active, even during
primetime. We made a stab at offering incentives to other clans to make SunLit their pub home but it didn't catch on. The SLDL and the MOTW server pull in clan players on league nights but the numbers are not sustained during the week. The TF2 server will occasionally fill up but the players appear to be transients. Some of you have made a determined attempt to seed the servers but through no fault of your own, have not had success. Without a solid player base using the servers, there's very little rationale for keeping all of them.
The SunLit website exists by the good graces of John and it is the linchpin for the community. Many thanks to John for maintaining the web site account for SunLit as building a new site with this functionality is beyond my capabilities.
The dedicated server is another matter. Our thanks to those who have contributed to the server's financial upkeep. Its cost is $2800.00 USD/year ($229.00 USD/month). Simply renting 1 pub 24 slot DODS and 1 pub 24 slot TF2 server would bring the costs down to $1034.00/year but without a regular player base even this may not bemoney well spent.
The intention is to keep the servers running as is until the end of the SLDL and CAL seasons. At that time there are several options:
1) Keep the servers as they are dependent upon new donations committed now towards the $2800
2) Downsize to 1 (DODS) or 2 public (DODS and TF2) servers if there is still enough interest in a "home" server. Additional match servers would no longer be hosted through SunLits.
3) Have no servers but maintain the web site as a base for the community, SLDL and SLTL.
